Previously on Listening For That Sweet Tune:
Weight now settled in my lungs. It was
hard to breathe but I was able to get up on my own. I looked around to see
everyone and everything in places they were previously. My hands were still on
the ground in front of me trying to support me up but it was painful. My left
hand still had the rose and at this point it was the only thing separating me
from the blood on the ground though my own blood was now amoung the rest. I
leaned back to put all the weight on my knees and lifted my hands from off the
ground. The rose was using its thorns to keep a hold of me; it hooked under my
skin and gave its poisons.
I got the rest of the way up to put my
weight over the railing again to help me stay standing. The movement of
everyone twirling below me made me feel nauseous, like vertigo but I wasn't
moving at all. Looking back to where I was originally going, I saw a couple
dancing and twirling in the small pathway I was heading towards—they were not
here originally. Something was different about them compared to the rest of
the, things, that were within this strange place. They moved around each other
as if they were liquid. They seemed to be at peace but when I started to look
at the woman's dress, it was white and covered with blood—much like the rose
that I carried within my hands, just some beautiful tragedy.
I continued to follow the blood that
was laid before me and the once straight trail now moved back and forth in
figure eights and curves; it didn't take me long to figure out that the blood
trail that was previously from the assailant I was pursuing now, turned into
something else. Things changed. My mind began to wonder to other things as I
continued to walk forward. My thoughts turned from finding out who has been
committing various murders around me to this mysterious dancing couple. Their
bodies were mixed and fixed to make one of each other. The women held onto the
man tightly having nearly every part of her body touching him yet keeping their
balance and grace.
This path continued on for what seemed
like forever and as this couple was leading the way to whatever was
waiting for me at the end I could feel a great sensation of warmth. I was most
likely getting delirious but I still had a sound mind, I knew what was going on
I just was curious. The Celebrated Minuet ended and everyone started
to clap in appreciation for the young musicians. Since the music halted for a minute’s
time the dancing couple that I was following stopped dancing and leaned over
the railing to continue the applause. Several people in the rooms behind me
exited and ceased what they were doing also to stand next to the railings. I
looked around to see many people all around me in an applause but I couldn't
quite see the musicians to I helped myself to the railing as well.
All of the musicians respectively stood
outside the gazebo while inner locking their hands and bowing repeatedly in
response to the gratitude of the crowd. The musicians sat back down and talked
amoungst themselves most likely what they were going to play next while everyone
stood motionless looking at the musicians. There was hundreds on the ground
floor now that I couldn't even see the floor anymore and everyone was waiting—something
was going to happen.
A low pounding of a drum sounded behind
me, I looked back immediately to see where it was but it not only was behind me
but everywhere. Then other instruments sounded around me within seconds—this
trios of strings were not the only musicians within this building. Within
seconds everyone spoke simultaneously in a loud opera sounding tone.
'O Fortuna.' I knew the exact song they
were beginning as they formed the words for it. It was a piece called Carmina
Burana by Carl Orff; it was based off of a medieval poem called O Fortuna,
everyone continued. 'Velut luna, statu variabilis.' Everything grew silent
seconds after but a mumbling of the people continued but that became the least
of my worries. Within the crowd below me I saw a man on the floor and another
standing directly above him with a knife in the air. With one direct blow to
the others heart the other man started shaking uncontrollably as the other
continued to use the knife to cut down towards is legs and a great feeling of
detest overcame my body. Everyone else then began to fight with each other as
the music picked up and so did the singing.
'Egestatem, Potestatem, dissolvit ut
glaciem.' The violence turned from cutting to tearing and slowly but surly the
people around me began to use every object of their bodies against one another.
I stood my ground to watch this happen around my feet and below me. Everything
that was once a solid was being now dissolved into tiny fibers and blood—the
blood trail was indiscernible now compared to the rest that now flooded
the floor. I looked over to where the couple once was and they were still
moving forward but no longer dancing. The man led the way while the woman had
her hand tightly around his trying to keep up but it wasn’t a pace of running
but something playful. Both of them still had smiles on their faces and people
consumed one another at their feet.
'Status malus, vana salus, semper
dissolubilis.' Everything only grew louder and more monstrous around me. People
screamed in pain but also what sounded like laughter like it was the only thing
that could fill the void they now had within their bodily cavity. The couple
laughed with each other and confusion overcame me but the end was now sighted.
At the end of this walkway lied a white metal door—though not so white anymore—but
with every trip I made over the people below me it was going to take me a
while; I was just grateful that none of them were targeting me at the moment.
As one finished eating all they could of another they ran to other people even
the ones that were still consuming to bite them in the necks and ripping out
what they had of a neck. I could imagine some obscure cruel pleasure going
through everyone’s mind that could only consume, a glance in their eyes was
devastating to the slightest look. I could hear them tell me 'You're
next.'
'Sors salutis, et virtutis, michi nunc
contraria.' Someone grabbed a hold of my leg and tried to drag me down I turned
to see a man nearly without a face, his jaw hanged down from his mouth and a
lone eye was all I could see. His grip was loose and with a minor shake he let
go and fell down to the ground to be consumed by others. I turned to look back
at the couple and they were already on the other side of the door. As the door
was closing, a small glimpse inside was seen. Things looked green but not the
lighting, there were plants everywhere like a botanical garden--this only
increased my curiosity to pursue this further.
'Hac in hora, sine mora, corde pulsum
tangite.' The song was reaching its end as the screams grew louder and the
music intensified. I now was only a few feet away from the door that would end
this torture that I was witnessing. 'Quod per sortem, sternit fortem, mecum
omnes plangite!' The last words were being held in the air as the instruments
did their finale and then it grew quiet. Only the screaming was what filled the
air now much louder than before but my hand was now on the handle to which the
white door was connected to.
I looked back to see everyone and all
that was still lacking any wounds stood and looked at me directly with a great
look of the emotion anger. I had worn out my welcome and I was no longer wanted
within these walls but the last glimpse made me see something. Further in the
background I saw that strange dark figure that stabbed me to what feels like a day
ago. I couldn't see its eyes but I knew it was looking at me. I opened the door
and walked with my back to the inside as the black figure shook back and forth
more rapidly as the seconds went by. I closed the door quickly and all was
silent, I leaned against the door, sat down and closed my eyes—everything was
quiet now.
