The train began to come to a halt when we
started to pass many of the larger buildings within the city and I raised up my
head to look at what the area that we were stopping in looked like. When I
looked through the window that was closest—which was to my left—I saw several
tall buildings surrounding a plaza of bricks and tiles, trees lining the
sidewalks and the continuation of little rivers that went under the sidewalks
and wrapped around the trees. People walked back and forth in the distance; the
plaza looked stunning, this entire city looked stunning.
Up closer to us were lines of people
outside what seemed like concrete walls and a gate being blocked by wired
fences, this was the same place in which we stopped but we were on the other
side. I stood up out of my seat to see if I could look over the wall to
distinguish more of what was going on but the wall was to high. I turned
around to look at Ville to see him still sitting in his seat to see what looked
like praying but as I turned my to look at him he opened his eyes and looked at
me.
'Don’t let them scare you Emery. You have
no worry in this matter, its just crooked politics and rouge corporations.' I
wasn't sure if I wanted to know more about what he meant but at the moment I
just wanted to be able to sleep in an actual bed for an eternity. Ville got up
out of his seat and walked past me, I watched him every step of the way till he
has too far to my left and that’s when I centered my view to see what lied on
the other side of the train. Directly on the other side was a series of smaller
buildings following the same sidewalks and streams up to a larger body of water—could
this be the ocean? Docks followed to ships to ones in sizes I never thought were
possible as they raced towards the ever-approaching sunset—it would be dark
within an hour. I turned to look at Ville and he was standing in the open
doorway that separated us from my new found civilization.
I walked up behind him noticing that
everyone else was leaving but he motioned for me to stay as he held his head
down but his ears up high. He was listening for something, it could have been
the environment that he had been deprived of and he only missed the sounds of
the streets. The others left the train as Ghil gave them back their papers just
to show them again to several people who stood at the gates that separated the
two groups. I listened with him but I turned to look back at the ocean and all
the easy going flows it offered. I couldn't be sure if this is what he missed
because the people outside were yelling and crying as if this wasn't a good
thing to be doing. This could have been new to Ville; he may be surprised and
was listening to hear the community’s outcry for change and whatnot. As all the
people gathered in front of the gate, the ones that were standing in front of it
previously started to bang on the fence telling the other party to back
off.
Ghil rushed in front of Ville and
whispered something to him and walked away, Ville stood for a few seconds
longer then motioned me to follow him but also put his finger in front of his
lips to tell me to be quiet. He moved swiftly attempting to catch up with Ghil
as I attempted to follow also. Instead of walking forward with the rest of the
people we took an abrupt right to head down a walkway towards the front of the
train. Taking another turn to the right to force us to go under the train,
steps began to head to an underground area.
One flight passed then we took a left to
head down another couple of flights to end up to a darker corridor being
scarcely lit due to what I could only figure to be secrecy. Midway down the
hallway was another fence and another pair of people standing in front of it
along with Ghil talking to them and handing them objects, which they soon
pocketed. Ghil turned to point at us and the two men nodded to Ghil as they
opened the gates to let us continue down the hall. Ghil started to walk away to
catch up with Ville and me to shake his hand then shook mine.
'Its nice to finally meet you Emery, I
wish that this encounter could have been under a better circumstance but with
all of these complications, well its at least good that you are here early.' I
nodded to him back though I didn't completely understand him but I couldn't
help but feel as if I am 'The Chosen One'. I am sure that this isn’t the case
but with all of these weird circumstances, one could only wonder. The people
that were in front of the gate were rather larger in size but they looked like
any average person in average clothes; I looked away after I caught myself
staring at them excessively and they took notice. I lowered my head and passed
them to follow in the footsteps of Ville, seconds later a click echoed through
the hall of the gate closing. Just at that minute I remembered the old man that
we wheeled into town and that we left him on the other side of the city
where Gillian's Travel Emporium was.
'Hey. Ville. What happened to that older
man that we brought into town?' I asked. Ville turned his head back but
continued to look forward as we continued down the hall.
'I left him as Ghil's. He would have no
benefit here in his current condition but I can assure you that it wont be the
last that you will see of him.'
'So he is going to rise from the dead or
something like that?' I asked again. Ville chuckled to himself and responded.
'He wasn't dead in the first place. Lets
just call it sleeping, heavy sleeping.'
'Well that man can sleep through a storm.
You practically threw that guy down an entire mountainside.' He continued to
laugh to himself a little bit harder.
'Well I can assure you that I feel really
bad about that and I will apologize to him when he wakes up.' I smiled to
myself; it’s been a while since that has happened. Ville continued. 'So, the
place we are going to is to where my parents live, when we get there we can figure
everything out.'
'In this freaking tunnel? That’s where
they live?' I asked. Ville turned after a few more feet, which landed us
conveniently in front of another flight of stairs but this time they were
heading up. Ville scratched his for a second and then looked at me.
'This is a VIP tunnel that heads to the
main corporate and government building that is in the center of the city. This
is where the main public figures go to avoid media attention.'
'And from there we will head to where
your parents are?'
'Emery. I guess I am not making this very
clear. My parents are in the building. They own it, they live in it and the
entirety of our family is there. If this were a monarchy, I would be considered
the heir to the thrown. My parents and family are the government. They are the
political center. They are the main organized crime family that controls the
city and I am apart of it also. I don't mean to be a threat to you but you need
to follow me and stay close, my mother doesn't take kindly to strangers, let
alone anyone at all.'
