Chapter 13: Strange Terrain Pt. 2

A few steps later my vision went back to its normal state and the black figure started to turn away from me and walk away. I tried to fasten my pace to see this thing at a closer look but the pain was just too much for me to handle. I knew by now that where he was walking was to deep for any person to just simply stride above it—he wasn't human, but had human characteristics. I shook my head several times to make sure I wasn't just seeing thins but there it was, just going on some casual stroll.

He never looked behind him to see if I was still looking and I didn't expect it to. Its not like he is one of those people who make a scene just for the attention. He knew what he did and he didn't care if it affected me. Then again, what says it is a he? I guess I just thought that because all people imagine things differently. He was a man in my eyes, I don't think any woman would want to ruin my life like this but women are good at picking people apart. Imagine what you will.

I just copied the figure before me and I found there was no rush to pursue it anymore, so I went on with my casual limp out of the cave. I couldn't imagine what I will see when I reach the end and knowing my odds the cave will be the only thing for miles, just cruising along the ocean. I really hope it wont be anything like that but luck hasn't turned to my side yet. When the figure reached the end of the cave and to the large body of water outside of the cave, he turned left and I lost my sight of it. I have a thought in my head. Like it is just waiting for me around the corner, just waiting patiently like it always does.

Soon as I turn that corner I expected to be hit in the face just to see the thing end me right there. It laughs at me saying that it wanted to torture me first and I can defiantly tell you just having to walk over rocks with an injured leg is that very thing. If this doesn't end in a few more minutes then I just might snuff it. I would let myself die, I have no desire to live like this and I have no intention of it in the future. I'll give up, easy, that’s how it has always been done.

I am now only a few feet away from the edge now and I can see land to my left and I can see trees and land in the horizon, like I’m in some cavern near a lake in the woods. When I reached the edge I could see there was a path to my left out and up into the hills but I was obviously cautious about turning the corner, I peeked around a little bit and all I saw was sand, dirt, and more trees—great. I could have sworn that when I was in the cavern looking out it looked like I was in some tropical cave just off the coast but now... its different. What were originally bright blues and vibrant greens now look grey and gloomy like I was where I originally thought but it all changed when I got outside. I turned the corner and continued. There was a path along a hill that was in front of me going alongside with the lake so I did the only thing I could do, move forward but now at a slant. It felt like a hiking trail probably because it was. Not everything is so complicated; I think whatever is affecting me wants to give me a break.

It is near dusk right now but then again, the sun may just be coming up too, I guess I will see in a few. The lake to the right of me is just beautiful. For the first time in a long while everything seemed peaceful and nice and pure. I was near the top of the hill now and I was now getting pretty high also, I turned around to see the cave and it just looked like a little speck in the distance. For being injured I guess I made some distance very well. The incline I was on is now straightening out now and I can almost see over the hill to see the landscape but I turned around to look at the place where I appeared no longer than half an hour ago.

The lake now ended, the cave was nearly gone and I couldn't see any creepy figures in the distance. Another plus I guess is the fact that other than the old black figure, just earlier I haven't seen anything unusual here. No hallucinations either. Maybe the apartment was just trying to kill me or I was just stir-crazy but what about the other people? I turned around all the way now to see if I could see a city or at least something in the distance I looked north of where I was standing—to see where the cave was—then I looked west to see more mountains, hills and more to the lake. I turned right to look east and that’s when I think I saw something more than insignificant.

There were trees directly in front of me but I could see something behind the trees, so I backtracked a little through the foliage to see what was on the other side. There were only a few trees in the way so it didn't take long but where I was now was on a cliff. It was quite a big drop too but at the bottom is where this gets strange again. This lake/forest area stopped exactly where I stood and beginning at least a hundred feet under me was a prairie. No hills or anything, just a green flat surface extending for miles. I looked to the right of me and I saw where the green started turning yellow and a little after that was the ocean. I couldn't see further than that because there is a big fog in the distance. Looking left further down the prairie I saw what might have been the city I was in previously. Skyscrapers filled the landscape and the green started turning grey and full of metal and concrete but everything seemed just so weird.

The city was toppled. Buildings that were previously piercing the entire landscape while in the city were now fallen over and in rubble. Smoke and fires rose from the entire city as if everything back when I was sucked out of my apartment happened to the whole city. Like a wormhole just opened up and some creature pushed everything down and made mischievous fires because it wanted to add insult to injury. I wasn't for sure if this really was the city I was in previous or if this is another city just being crushed by nature; I know I'll never find out. I had no intention on turning back. I was going to take full advantage of where I was and I will just simply take it as a sign and go with it. Its not like I even had my apartment anyway, I am pretty sure it got destroyed in all the chaos along with the city if this was what I think is where I lived.

I walked away and continued to go further down the path I was heading down previously and I was curious where the sun was now. I looked around to see where it was and to my right I saw it peeking up from some mountains and a ocean coast in the distance. So, I know I am near water now. When I got through the forest all the trees were now sand dunes and large rocks. Now the dirt path I was on was going downhill to a beach—it wasn't to far away. Due to the incline I was doing a slight jog down the hill but tried to maintain my balance.

Then there it was. I reached the ocean looking forward all I could see was a murky blue and fog everywhere. There was a light up to my left up on another hill. I saw a silhouette of a building that resembled a cottage or even a cabin. A smoke was coming out of a chimney on top of the house so now, I may have just found life other than that weird figure and dead bodies so I did the only thing that I really could now—running up another hill and see if there is a potential to figure out what is really going on.

Ripping It Out, It Feels So Fine.

Cross the street,
at the middle of night.
watch it crumble as I,
loose my sight.

I need to rip it,

I just need to rip it out.

Watch those married men,
with their shoulders up high.
Look at the lonely women,
nooses up high.

I just need to rip it off,

I just need to rip it out.

Drinking that liquid that seems,
sweeter than wine.
When you feel a sharp pain,
know that its mine.

Try to forget the past,
and everything that lacks.
Remember that day you can,
see your own hands.

I just need to rip it off,

I just need to rip it out.

Get it out.

Love it while you learn
to walk on your two feet.
Understand your heart,
is what makes you see.

Staining all my clothes,
staining where I sleep.
Wait for something new,
something with relief.

Looking down the river,
red seems just fine.
People ask how you are,
you feel alright.

I just need to rip it off,

I just need to rip it out.

Get it out.

Get out.

Previously on The Child

They were kind, everyone here was kind and then on the last day I was in my cell, on the other side of the door, I heard some muttering about a proper trial of me and another voice said that they thought I was hiding something. I laid there in my makeshift bed of hay and cotton facing away from the door and looking up to the window high up in my cell to see the moon and its light hit my face. This is what I loved. I always found the night more beautiful than the morning sky, there just seemed it had way more character to it than any other time. Just then I heard a yell and a cracking of chains rattling and breaking in another cell and the men I heard talking just a minute ago started swearing very firmly and running towards the cell.

After a while I heard clinging and grunting and the other man that was yelling originally started to yell at them. I heard no exact words of what he said it was almost like something was done to his tongue and what I could make out was something like 'Camorte free the soul!' and then a drop followed proceeded by the chains following to the ground. I don't know what 'camorte' was or if that was just something I heard and he said a variation of it but something was wrong. I heard the men on the other cell whisper amoungst themselves and then I heard several locks undone and then from what I understood a dragging of the body.

Like as before, my door was made out of wood so I couldn't see what was happening but I was able to put my face against the floor to see a half an inch gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. I waited to see if anything would appear as the dragging of the body sounded louder and louder to my door. Some feet came up to stand in front of my door first. The man was looking to my left because his feet were pointed down the hallway they were just down and I heard him say 'Mother isn't going to be happy to hear about this'.

My heart started pounding as soon as he started talking because for a second I thought he was talking to me. He sounded as if he was looking at my door but before I had the time to do anything his feet turned and started to walk to my right. After a few more seconds I saw another pair of feet passing from left to right and I found out that this was the man dragging the body as he claimed 'I don't know why you aren't helping me with this.' and in the distance I heard a response 'Your the one who killed him, you take responsibility.'. As he was walking backwards slowly, I kept close attention to the corner of my door just waiting to see what was going to appear and the first thing that showed was a shade of pink flesh that looked like his side so I figured the man that was previously the owner of the noise complaints was being dragged on his back by the killer who had a hold of his legs.

Further as the body moved I noticed the man’s right arm was on his chest and they were bleeding profusely and then I was seeing his neck. The man hasn't shaved for what appeared as centuries because he had this ragged grey beard coming off from his chin. I held my breath in anticipation to see what was going to pass by and what I saw was something I least expected but I have seen it before. The man had an obviously dead face but his eyes were pitch black! It looked as if the gaze was fixed on me the entire time he passed but that was the least of my worries.

His lips were sewn shut; at least they were at a time. Everything around his lips was red and bleeding, I couldn't tell if anything was in his mouth or even if all if the metal wire stitches were out but it was too much of a sight to see. I returned my gaze to his eyes and then further along the way and his left arm was being dragged on the floor.

His wrists were covered in blood too but there was a pattern. As if they were symbols of some kind, but I couldn't tell to be sure due to the amount of recent blood flowing all around him and trailing behind him. Then as he passed, everything grew silent and though through all the things I just saw I was ready to go to sleep in preparation for the next day.

I woke up the next morning to hear my name being yelled repeatedly.

'Emery! Wake up boy this isn't a vacation!' As I opened my eyes I saw it was Ville in a clean suit and tie.

'Boy?' I said. 'I’m sure that you and me are very near the same age.' Ville laughed and responded.

'Yes maybe in appearance but I am an old soul and you haven't figured out what its like to be an adult' I got a little annoyed so I got up from my bed started pointing at Ville and as I was about to open my mouth he interrupted me.

'--Lets not fool around with this bigotry. I have to get to the point Emery. In a few minutes you will be let back outside of this cell to be tried amoungst your peers in the meadow. I can guarantee that the family likes you and they wont do anything about what you did but The Mother doesn't like you. But before you head you have to tell me what happened last night!'

I felt astonished to hear what was just presented in front of me I took a few thoughts and I realized that what happened last night wasn't a dream but it did actually happen. I took a deep breath and explained to him about the man and the sewn lips. He put his hands to his lips not able to believe what I just told him or maybe he was visualizing what I told him. 'This isn't right, this needs to be dealt with and soon.' I fully understood in what he meant because obviously there was a dark secret behind closed doors of this known 'Family' and as I knew as before nothing as what it seems on the outside.

After he composed himself he led me up back upstairs but as soon as I left my cell I looked left expecting to see anything more that happened to the night previous. Nothing. The journey back up is the same as it was before as I expected but as soon as I reached the top of the stairs into the cottage two men went on the sides of me and both grabbed one of my arms to lead me forward as if I did some heinous crime.

These two men are the guards at the cells, I don't know how there guarding does but they are also the same two guys from last night. I have never heard them talk and see their faces at the same time, so I don't know which was which from last night but the one holding my right arm was Augustus or more commonly called 'Auge' pronounced in a Frenchish sort of way using the 'g' as a 'shh' noise proceeding with a short a. He was big and had a shaved head but with darker skin. The other, of which, was a hermit looking man with a big rough beard torn clothes and not as bulky as Augustus but he could hold to himself, his name is Hans Lorgen. I couldn't really tell anything about him.

As they grabbed a hold of my Ville slowed down and started walking behind us. I turned my head to look at him and he was looking at me very intently, pointed at me like he had a gun and then proceeded to shoot. I turned around and that’s when the two men leading me pushed me out the door to get blinded--yet again--by the sun.

As my vision came back to me I looked around the meadow and there were benches upon benches lined up looking towards the orchid and 'Mothers' little cottage. Before the orchid started however, was a podium looking table. Seeing all this as a whole reminded me of when the whole religious movement happened in the Americas. People were gathering as if they were going to be told who was saved. I guess it would make sense from my perspective.

When you go to church you hear the preacher say if your soul will be saved in comparison to when you go to a trial of your peers and they determine if you are saved also in a way of speaking. So to make things sound easier in my heart, I pretended as if I was a little kid going to church--I don't want to be here but I’m only going because I'm forced to by my ever sweet mother.

When everyone got settled in there chairs I was seated in the middle of the aisle just a little bit further than the beginning set of benches but still several feet away was the podium that I could only guess the mother was going to stand at. I heard a bell chime behind me and I heard a rush of rustling behind me. Upon looking behind me everyone stood up so I could only figure I was to also. As I got ready to leave the seat I was pushed back down on my right shoulder by Auge and he told me softly 'you wont be leaving this seat anytime soon.

It was at that moment in which I figured who was who from last night. Auge was the man who took the lead while Hans was the one who moved and killed the former man--at least I think. After everybody got up their seats right after the bell ring everything seemed as if it was moving rather slowly. The Mother exited her house and moved down the long path to us. The podium was short enough that if I straightened my back I could see her over the podium. It was like she was flowing, she had a white dress and everything around her just seemed to swirl. This was it. I’m not totally sure what will happen if I get accepted or denied or even how serious this is but I wasn't getting any good feelings.

She approached the podium and everyone got seated. She starred at me intensely and began to talk but not with looking at the audience she just looked at me and I could swear that she was ripping my soul in half.

'I would like to thank everyone in this gracious family for their patience and understanding for this sensitive matter. I have talked with all of you, as I’m sure you are all aware and I have heard only positive things about this man in front of me known as Emery Delacroix. As I was talking to Allure he has said that his soul is that is like of a child. Pure, innocent, misunderstood and passionate. I have also been informed that he will find the meaning of once lost.

This may be our day my family, with the strange sort of colliding effects this was bound to happen eventually but now may just be our time.' I heard a murmuring behind me and Mum stopped talking for a few seconds so people could talk amoungst themselves and then she continued.

'But this man in front of us has a strange last name! Coincidence or not, this is very uncomforting to me and so that is why I feel this man should be put under a constant care and supervision until a time in the future that I seem fit. Now Emery, head back into the house with the assistance with these men beside you as the rest of us will discuss this situation as a family.'

I didn't get a chance to say anything because after the second she finished speaking I was lifted up on both sides and guided to the house. I had a lot on my mind. When I decided to leave my actual father and not some fake family I was expecting myself to live quietly in a small town just keeping to myself till I figured out what I should do with my life.

It was just from a small incident of running low on gas and entering a diner late at night got me here. I was almost exited to be in a newer world that I wasn't familiar to but when I was leaving the first thing I heard in the distance was; 'He killed a man in the solitary last night! What are we going to do with that?'

The Beginning:

Previously on The Child:

I had a lot of time to myself soon as my ever kind 'Family' imprisoned me again. I don't know how long it has been since I was able to step outside but I feel it’s been a while now. I’m sure I have lost track of time—everyone does when your behind bars. It just all blends in together and you forget about months and years and you focus on the present day and what will happen the next. I still heard some screams in the other rooms beside me but they don't talk to me, they just yell in anguish and I just listen, as if it was my radio. Its not like I can tell them to stop but I would rather be a good neighbor and keep to myself.

From the time I spending down here, I’m getting several visits from the family but the visits weren't for pity. Some of the members I had my room with for a few days come down and asked if I stole anything else, more specifically their own things. Like one member, his name is 'Deadeye' Jack Walsh—you can guess my that’s his name—is an older member. He just strolls along with no care in the world but if you did something that involved him or his stuff he started to get at you like a three year old having a fit.

He came almost regularly as the days went and when he started visiting the conversation sounded like 'You piece of scum if I find you took anything from me I swear Ill cut your arms off'. Tough love I guess. Then after a while he started to put himself in my shoes weeks later after his first visit. By then he started talking to me about his life and how he fought in the war for the Allies. 'I taught em jerry's not to mess on our land but they gave me one last insult by gettin some shrapnel in ma eye!' Then after a long while we became friends and he apologized for being so harsh on me in the start.

Then I got to know the man who Anastsius was talking to the morning I was cast out. For a while he spoke very little but he was sent by 'mom' to read my fortune or something but he wanted to get to know me first. He was a quiet one and then after an amusing antic dote I told him about my childhood and he found out my last name was Delacroix. The mother never told anyone so when he found out everyone knew by the following day. Now, this quiet fortuneteller was a man just called Allure—which was very odd in my mind because he did none of the such to me. That’s when he read my fortune by looking into my soul or something.

He said I was a lost one with a big history. Imprisoned for years—I didn't think I was in this cell for that long—and that will find the meaning of once lost. That’s when he started telling me about the Delacroix's Cube. Apparently it’s only attracted to a certain kind of aura and it will shape shift and manipulates to reach the auras nature. He then was suggesting that I might just have the right to it if some certain things go through. Made no sense to me, I have only been here for so little and a majority of those days I spent in this same cell. How can I be entitled to anything that belongs to this family?

After a few more weeks I saw a member I have never seen before. He was the type of guy that you can say as 'sketchy'. When I found out his name he was the same guy that was mentioned by other members as more deceptive than anything I could have done. He was dressed like some noire detective with fancy suits, dark glasses, a fedora...it was just weird. He talked to me as if he was sharing secrets to the end of the world in a very quiet voice but they were only conversations like 'how’s the weather?' or 'I’m sorry for what is happening'. Several times I was tempted in saying back to him in a very secretive tone; 'Where’s the loo?'. I couldn't help but laugh to myself every single time I saw the man known as Mr. Robinson. I don't think anyone could take him very seriously, not even 'mum'.

The last ones that I could only remember to care about was a couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Cane. Mr. Cane, of which, was a bigger man. Not saying fat but by stature. He was a very tall well-put together man. His wife was amazing also very small and fragile but able to hold herself together and go through everything both of which had blue eyes, blond hair and were mid twenties. They were both dressed like a newlywed couple, very happy and always holding hands. They were happy as they were and I respected that. She had a very soft voice that was quite mellow; several times she just talked to her husband and had him tell me because she was so shy. He had a lower voice like thunder cracking through the skies. As I sat on the floor like a low life they entered my room every time with a set of chairs.

The Mr. always sat in a chair a little more pushed forward than his wife's as if I was some criminal while his wife sat a few inches beside and behind him, always with her legs crossed to show her pale white legs from all the summer dresses she wore. They liked to talk about family and if it was a good decision to have children—it wasn't my thing so I mostly just said many variation of yeah. After all the many conversations of the members of the family the lasts ones were this couple.

The last day they saw me in this cell Mrs. Cain told me while she was leaving 'I will leave a good word for you, don't worry, your days in this cell will be numbered'. While she said that her husband was already out of the cell holding her hand as she stood in the doorway trying to leave that little kind bye wave you see when the woman lifts up their palm towards you while moving their fingers back and forth; Her husband then tugged her other hand and it was like she flew away.

Clench My Fist, Make You See

Ill make it what I want.

It will become black as night.

The hands will be blood red.

Ill make you regret what you did to me.

So I will take my fist,

then clench it tight.

You will finally see.

That this is right and you were wrong,

and you never did understand me.

I tear these walls just to see whats inside.

I look behind and they were only chaining me.

Look at this, see everything you did.

Regret it.

Im seeing people,

they tell me to join them.

I dont know where they live,

though it seems like a better home.

The walls just seem to smile.

The ceiling likes me to yell.

While these walls close in,

the confining feels hot.

I remember those days,

in which I could see outside.

Theres nothing left to hide.

So look through my eyes,

tell me what you see.

Is there a man behind this mask?

Or is it a man that already died?

I will take my fist,

then clench it tight.

You will finally see.

That this is right and you were wrong,

and you never did understand me.

Poison Kisses To The End

I'll go and pave these streets with broken hearts.

I can take your thoughts of fear, and tear them up.

Who could have known that I was right,

you never really did make it through that night.

I will take these knives and use them well.

They may just help me sleep when Im in hell.

And I will try to remember how this happened,

to the end

You never understood me, never were inside.

If you remembered what happened you will only see my eyes.

I felt your sweet touch but now it makes me sick.

I want it out, I need it to go.

It tore me apart and now I have to see me like this.

This is what was made, this is your poison kiss.

Treat my wound, make me numb.

When it was all done, it only stung.

I have no more medicine,

so now I have no strength.

I will remain drowning in the rain.

Just swallow the sorrow and enjoy the pain.

This is where its left,

where everyone will pick off.

They will never be inside,

the wounds never healed.

This has been in my sight for so long.

Tears you up. Left the remains. Now.

Some things you can resist.

Eats your insides like some parasite.

It makes me cry.

It makes me what I am.

I now look at myself.

I see what I really am.

It infects me.

Like your poison kiss.

To the end.
