This Serenity was a strange woman—it almost seemed like she wasn't right in the head—I could have sworn that I have seen her talking to herself and she was looking over her shoulder every few seconds. Like she looked at corners of walls like there was something their, her view was just fixed, staring—it was very odd. When I started to stare at her to see what she was so fixed on she noticed my gaze and looked towards me and just made it seem like she was just daydreaming.

As I was following her down the sidewalk I kept looking around the corners too as if I believed that she truly was seeing something. She breathed in deeply and she was walking and she said; 'Isn't this day just beautiful?’ I looked around and I couldn't understand what she was seeing, the sky was dark, benevolent. Nothing made sense, no sense at all.

I followed her as she turned the corner and everything seemed so strange. I saw a building with fine architecture making an end to the street. I could only think of a villa as you see that all the rich people have but this may have been bigger than that--then again I don't know what makes a villa.  Right up in the front you see the road split in two ways around a set of rolling grassy knolls creating a circle. This, of which, was bigger than it would first seem to be. It looked as if the center grassy area could have been a kilometer in diameter but if it wasn't, it was close.

If you looked at it from the perspective of an aerial view, it would be circles within circles. The first being the road and then separating the road to all the foliage was a sidewalk. Next within the circle was a single row of flowers but not just one kind of flower. In fact while I approaching the hill while following Serenity I looked at them at a loser view, I wouldn't be surprised is every single flower was a different kind. The grass filled the rest of the circle and looking at the knoll in it, it may have just been in the exact center. Everything was perfect and precise and I haven't even taken notice to what laid directly on the other side of the knoll. By this time Serenity was already on the grass and I was to the point of walking over the flowers while not trying to destroy any of the beauty.

I knew that before I started to walk on this property I saw a rather large building on the other side but I couldn't quite make anything out due to the thickness of the fog. Now I could but the knoll covered the lower half of the house, itself was up on its own hill making my present angle just enough to see what seemed as the entrance of the house. I could see that a two story—and what seemed to be brick—mansion was on the other side—it had many bay windows and skylights. The front of the house was relatively straight the whole length other than towards the exact center was the door several feet back more into the house. On both sides of the door was plenty of space for chairs tables and two large columns that towered up to the second story and ending to where a boxed gable roof was.

I continued to follow Serenity and I noticed that she started to hasten up her pace like when some do when they are late. She saw something, I knew it and by this time she was up on top of the knoll while I was just starting to begin my assent. I lost sight of her, there was this big twisting feeling in my gut but the feeling had a thought attached to it. The feeling told me that I was going to loose her and this may just be a farewell.

'Hey Serenity?' I yelled. 'Wait for me.' Silence followed for what seemed like an eternity as I was now midway up the hill but my pace was more like a run now.

'Ben.' She finally responded but with a tone of weakness in her voice. 'You really need to see this view, it is rather quite beautiful, I am sure you will love it.' She sounded very close, like she was right next to me, so I sprinted up the rest of the length to the top. When I reached it, I saw Serenity was already at the base and walking towards the house.

I was confused because I could have sworn that she was so close but she was really so far away. As I watched her disappear in the fog I put my attention back to the house, more details poked out making everything finer in my head, then I noticed something. There was something like a building behind this house but not at a rather typical size but all I could really see was a large silhouette towering into the sky like the skyscrapers I saw near the apartment.

Something was glowing at the top of this tower. The light penetrated through the fog and shined in my face. Before I had the chance to think about blocking the light I started to lose my breath and I felt a panic attack head directly to my lungs. I grew uneasy; my legs shacked and then toppled from underneath me. I know I hit my head rather hard because the whole time when things went dark, I could feel this pulsing on the left side of my head but everything was dark for a while.

Amicus Est Tanquam Alter Idem Pt. 4

Shattered

Written by:

You've brought me in,
then you took me out.
Pulled me into your arms,
then taught me how to shout.
Conjoining the heart beats together.
Showing me how to fall.

Don't let me falter.
Don't let me cry.
Don't let me shatter,
or learn how to die.
Without you,
tomorrow wouldn't matter.
Without you
life wouldn't be worth living.
Without you,
I wouldn't know better,
but its easier said than done.

You see,
I am easily shattered.
You can,
tear me down in torn little bits
you learned,
of my flesh all torn and tattered.
So do you know what you want?

I can handle it,
throw it at me,
Living a life full of shit.
It might be easy,
when my bones are shattered,
but my heart is easy,
when my soul is tattered.
I will become mended.
Though the past has hurt me,
it happened faster,
and worse than intended.

The Selfish and the Selfless

Somewhere,
there is a battle field.
Babies cry,
on the open streets.
There was a addict,
to his own existence.
He came down,
glass cracking on his feet.

He was a symbol of the land and all its faces.
He toppled halls so people have a place to sleep.
Stopping power and the hungry getting strange reactions.
Always smiled as he slept in the rain.
There was a vision
of change to the world and its entire people.
Making coffins for all those who couldn't keep and stay.
Starting romance in the most unlikely of places.
Making a name to the holy human race.

He led us farther than my father would know.
Keeping life and giving people his home.
How’s a man to be so selfless,
in a world full of the selfish?
If I ever meet him I'm surely he would know.

I heard he's doing better than before.
Feeding it to all the junkies and whores.
How’s a man to be so selfless,
in a world full of the selfish?
If I ever meet him I'm surely he would know.

The Beginning:

Previously on The Child:

We ran. Everything around me was moving so fast that I never really paid attention to what I was passing. I had the box tucked up between my arm and chest, holding on to it as if my life depended on it—I got attached to it, I don't really know why. It was like it became apart of me, like it was family—it did have a name just like mine though—I never looked back.

I knew Ville was behind me because I could here something like boots or dress shoes running behind me and through all these days, that’s what he preferred. I didn't know where we were going to go but there was a feeling in the air that said that we had to leave. So Ville and me ran outside with all we had on our backs.

I threw some skinny black jeans and a dark blue short sleeved shirt on before this whole thing happened and when I encountered Ville—like always—he was dressed up in a pressed white shirt and tie with black slacks; this is all we had other than what was in our pockets, whatever awaited me had been better be something like a sanctuary. I didn't know what Ville was planning on so when we got a few feet into the plains area in front of the cottage I slowed down to talk to him.

'Where are we going?'

'Well.' Ville paused 'I know where but I think that it would be best to just see. Were heading further down south along the coast, there is a place there that I have friends. They are more civilized than the barbarians that we have here but I think you should be asking questions on more important matters.' I thought for a few seconds and although I wanted to know what happened to everyone in the sanctuary and if they were dead or even something else, I never asked.

'I think we should focus on the task at hand.' I replied. 'I have trusted in you before, I am sure you know what you are doing.'

'Well thank you for trusting in me.' Ville smiled. We ran out past the property lines of what seemed to be the end of The Family's Retreat to jump a few broken down wooden fences and entered an overgrown field. Trees scattered the area, enough to give you constant shade—though currently it was night—but not enough to choke you out; it was comfortable.

Turning around looking back at where we once were, I could only wonder if anything was done differently things wouldn't have turned out this way but the choices were already made and the dominoes were already in action.

While I was turned looking at once was I saw a light coming from the orchid that heads to The Mothers house. The colour of it was this bright white and blue almost like it was sunlight but far more powerful than darkness. It looked as if it was dimming then grew in intensity seconds later and the source of it moved around quickly throughout the entire area. The light grew brighter towards my direction and it felt like it was a spotlight but a faction of light physically looking at me. When the area around me began to light up Ville noticed that we were no longer traveling in the dark and looked back to me.

'Get down!' Ville yelled then preceded to tackle me into the dirt. He pushed my head down while he was peeking a little over the foliage to make sure the lights gaze was leading somewhere else. 'Stay away from that thing, you don't want it to see us, especially right now with what we have.' I was confused in what the thing was.

'So what is it then?' I asked.

'Its, something else.' Ville responded. 'All I know is that it does something, something that can change you and there will be no turning back. I haven't been close enough to it to find out and I don't plan on it. Just whenever you see that light, stay out, its nothing but trouble.' I nodded and looked up to see if the light was over us again but it had left to look somewhere else. Ville got up then helped me up to continue going onward, Ville was getting antsy about something and I wasn't sure what it was. Though we were running through the fields he was sweating more than normally, like something you get from when you have night terrors. We continued for about twenty minutes till he finally said something to me.

'I need to do something Emery and no matter what happens just know that I am fine.'

'What do you mean?' I asked.

'Have you ever taken something addicting like drugs or alcohol or something like that. I thought for a quick second.

'No. I can’t say that I have. What’s going on?' Ville started scratching at his skin looking around for something.

'I need to appease an addiction of mine, an addiction to many as you will soon see.'

'Alright' I shrugged. 'What is it that you need to do?' I was just full of questions now.

'I will be ok alright? Don't panic because everything will be all right. If you really need to I can go somewhere out there and you can look away.' I was curious to what he was talking about so I motioned to him to proceed he nodded. He undid his tie and unbuttoned his shirt to reveal several scars and such all over his chest. Seconds later he took out the knife that was tucked near the small of his back and I figured what he was going to do but I didn't quite understand why.

The sun was starting to rise in the distance and a red orange glow began to peek over the horizon. Though it was incredibly dark where we were, I could make out his face and everything about him but as in previous events I have had with him his pupils grew black and through everything around me, that was the one thing I could make out the most. The incredible black darkness from his eyes surpassed any form of night around us. It looked as if his eyes were blacker than pitch black but how would something like that make sense—then again what has made sense?

Ville fell to his knees and started shaking uncontrollably looking directly up in the sky in each direction very fast. Seconds at a time I could have thought I saw his neck snap in half and his head laid parallel with the coming horizon behind him.

He immediately stabbed himself directly in the chest were his heart would be and tore his knife directly down—fast and deep—to his belly button. The whole way as the knife went down his torso breaking and rattling came out from his chest and then he dropped his knife. He put both hands on the openings of his incision on both sides to tear his chest open to reveal something that one would not particularly expect. Though blood looks black when the light of the moon touches it, this didn't seem like blood, though it was incredibly black.

Previously on Listening For That Sweet Tune:

I felt clean. Like every wrong thing I have ever done was washed from my back then lit on fire. Everything looked different now from what I could tell wood panels, wood floor, bamboo curtains, there was light in here now and plenty of it. The sun was up and brighter than any day before at once in my life I finally feel at least a little hope for tomorrow. Everything is normal—at least to my standards.

Looking down to see myself I not only felt clean but I looked clean too. Any traces of blood or dirt that was present on me before has now vanished from off my body and mind. Looking at my past crippling wounds, they were nearly healed to make me perfect again. No dirt or blood lied under or around my fingernails—I truly felt perfect. When I woke up from my black peace I found myself lying in some make shift bed consisting entirely of fleece blankets. I got up to look around the room at another perspective and I still felt a sharp pain in my leg—though it is more bearable than before.

In front of me were the French doors that opened to one of the hallways and the previous one I was in before I blacked out. The wall to my right was filled with wood paneling and two windows equidistant from each other and to the corners of the wall. The wall to my left though, was entirely naked with nothing to decorate its loneliness. Turning a one eighty moving the wall that was on my right now to my left was a view to the crashing waves below me. Sets of windows filled the entire wall other than the last five or so feet leading to the right wall. Here laid a closet with no doors, clothes or even shelves, just an empty, useless area inside this house—most likely to be the majority of the house too. I walked towards the windows to see a balcony is out on the other side of the window to hang over the rocks below it like a man’s last standing place.

Whatever I was looking at whether it be the ocean or something else, it was beautiful. This treacherous fog was pushed back towards the horizon; I was amazed from what I saw. This was the first time I was able to see what was around me since I reached this beach and the view was so stunning I thought I was literally in a peace of all that was good. In the distance I saw islands with enormous mountains full of trees and a solid beauty and the surrounding beach had no fail to it. I then remembered that I wanted to see what was on the other side of this house; I entered back inside.

When entering the hallway, everything that was there previously that was at least mildly disturbing had vanished. I first walked into the room that I blacked out in to see something similar to a black room where photographers developed their film due to no light inside and sinks littering the walls within the room. I looked to the left wall to see that the phonograph was still in the room but it was on the table now, clean and in perfect condition. I left the room and continued to head down the hallway to look into the room that previously a man was killed by my mouth.

There was nothing strange or out of the ordinary. Everything was where it once was minus all the blood, body parts and objects formed into a ritualistic manner. I walked inside still smell a dampness if blood in the air, I wasn't just seeing things, I could feel it. Crouching down to look at the floorboards I could see stains of blood being nearly wiped away but the wood on the floor soaked in the moisture like it was water and blood is what it needed to survive. There was nothing more for me here so I continued onward.

Walking back into the hallway I headed towards the painting that was in the hallway previously. Everything that was on it before was now something totally different. The painting that was there looked familiar, I knew I've seen it before but it took me a while to figure it out. The name of the painting was 'A Bar At The Foiles-Bergere'. In it is a woman bartender in the middle and liquor bottles around her as she is serving a customer. One thing about it is that behind her lays a mirror that enables you to see the things that she sees. The interesting part about it is that what is in front of her to the reflection in the mirror, there are many irregularities. The part that I paid close attention to though, is in the reflection you can see the man’s face of whom she is serving. Normally you can see it but in this version I was looking at had the man’s face scratched out aggressively with black ink.

I wasn't really sure what to make out of this but one could only assume the worst. I turned away from the painting to continue to head to the other side of the house and I finally heard a noise. I first thought it was a creak in the floorboards or the house settling but it then sounded to be more of a mumbling of voices. It sounded like a few people at first but then I realized that it was coming from the same mouth, just in two different tones. I walked into the next room seeing that the glass that was smashed in the hallway was still here. Walking into the adjacent room I looked towards the window that had the hands looking at me to see someone sitting on the floor in front of it, holding a knife with several decapitated hands surrounding him. This was a new sight to come to me but this peculiar fellow seemed to know of the strange events and though looked very strung out, it seemed like he had a grip on reality.

One Thousand One Hundred And Thirty Four

It’s my number.
One thousand one hundred and thirty four.

One good harlot and three filthy whores.
One bent path that’s paving the way,
and twenty passionate fans, loosing the day.

Two sweet eyes that can help me see,
there was eighty two years in my history.

Two new guitars but five others smashed apart.
Two broken hearts but twelve watched it die from the start.

One crooked night turned to ten years of time.
There was only one cellmate, he was at year 39.

A hundred sleepless nights, a dozen sleepless days.
There could be a hundred good reasons,
but one more will pave the way.

I had thirty-five drinks for my messed up head
when I first started, I should have been dead.

Five mental illnesses, fourteen prescribed pills.
Twenty-two pills were enough to kill me
but one stomach pump brought me to reality.

I’ve seen twenty-three doctors but they have all said the same.
I spent a good twenty years with the insane.

Thirty-five scars, mostly on my two wrists.
Ten members in my family were trying to assist.

One lonely house and one king sized bed.
This bed is made for a couple its just me instead.

One empty stomach that can eat like ten men.
The owner remains starving; it’s the third day for that.

Three razor blades and one hangman’s noose
It was the thirteenth time this year but still no use.

One crafty city made one good home.
Forty different people made sure I wasn't alone.

I've been a good man just for a few years time.
I met a hundred people, they all act the same.

It’s been a good weeks time since I changed my shirt.
It will be a decade though, till this stops the hurt.

There have been 2 world wars in this century,
but in this one mind, a greater war is in me.

I never had a wife, or even a testimony,
when it all ends what will happen to me?

I’ve read seventy books but the subject was all the same.
Murder, blood and philosophy.

I’ve smoked sixty-seven cigarettes all in stressful times.
Then I found my brother died of cancer, he was only twenty-nine.

One hundred good men,
would have fought for a hundred years for you,
but you only chose me,
the one who fought for his mind instead.
