The Beginning:

Previously on The Child:

Everything further on up the stairs was a luxury in some way, shape or form. Red velvet carpet covered the floor being made out of such fine fabrics I could feel the soft cushions through my shoes. As soon as we reached the main floor, the concrete walls and ceilings of an underground tunnel turned into fine walls of that of a chapel. Stones, metals and several kinds of glass paved their way down the hall as the theme of red velvet continued not only on the ground but with drapes in the forms of ribbons hung down from the ceiling going every direction. The ceiling itself was something of itself; it towered up to at least twenty feet high if not higher and frescos of what looked to be a divine theme showed through all the gaps.

Stained glass windows and several kinds of metals lined the walls on our left as to our right was several wooden doors with family portraits in between—this continued down a straight hall for what seemed to be miles. Everything had some form of a twelfth-century Gothic style to it; walls had curves and vaults to make simple masonry look like some childish activity. The place looked old but you could tell it was made recently, just in an older form of architecture.

Light flooded through the hall from the stained windows. Ville took the lead in front of me in some form of haste but that didn't depreciate my love towards the craftsmanship that flooded the halls. I lifted up my neck to get more sun to hit my face, it felt amazing, this whole place offered that feeling as one gets whenever they finally get to their house from a long vacation. This felt like my home for a seconds time till I remembered that I may not even be welcome, I just wish that the events that happened previously would not follow me here. I wanted a family; I needed a family, a family to watch over me and to give me that feeling that I get in my body that feels like a liquid happiness. I've never felt that before, I loathed for it like it was a drug and under any circumstance I would do anything to get that feeling again. I felt compromised to do others bidding and I was fully aware of it but as long as I could feel good, nothing mattered.

Ville stopped in front of a door that was to the right, it looked like all the rest--I couldn't figure out how he knew which door he wanted to go through—as he pushed his hair back behind his ears and breathed in deeply a few times.

'You going to be okay? You seem really tense.' I asked.

'What?' He thought for a second. 'Yeah I am fine. I have just been away from home for such a long time I just don't know how anything is going to turn out. I just hope we run into my father first.' I laughed aloud for a second because he told me tales of his mother while we were on our way to 'Calpernicius' or The City as a more common term. He smiled back as me to then turn to the door and place his hand on the knob and breathed in several more times. I heard a door behind us from where we were coming from open. Ville instantly looked towards the sound as a foot came out and then a man with a suit who was talking to himself and his head down came out with his head down. Ville took his hand off of the knob as the man leaned his back against the door he just went through. His stance turned into a more aggressive position as he turned his head towards us—he knew we were here, like a hunters instinct.

'You're not supposed to be here. What the hell are you doing here?' My throat blocked up in seconds as I lifted up my hands as if to say 'I don't know'. I couldn't find any words in which to respond to him. 'I am only going to ask you one more time. What are you doing here? You better answer me now boy.' I tensed up still speechless to turn to look at Ville who was behind me. He looked at me as if he didn't know what to say either but pushed me to the side to confront the man.

'I am sure you recognize me. Boy. I am a long awaited guest and I deserve all of your hospitality within these walls.' The man was speechless himself, making the same motions and sounds I was making seconds prior. He looked like an idiot caught in his own steps with his hand in a cookie jar, I laughed to myself then wondered if I looked like that.

'Of course I remember you. You are here earlier than expected.' Ville nodded his head and finally smiled.

'Well of course. Things turned out to be easier than we previously figured, no thanks to this fellow man.' He turned to his side pointing to me to show the other man looking at me intensely and Ville offered the same look.

'I’m sorry.' I said. The two men laughed together and the other continued.

'Well he certainly is a peculiar fellow. I’m sure your mother would be please—' Ville stopped him.

'I was actually hoping to see my father first is he in his study?' The other man rubbed his head for a second.

'Yes, he is but are you sure you don't want to confront your mother first? She would be very...disappointed to hear that you didn't see her immediately.'

'I know my mother, you don't have to tell me that. I know what I am doing, just don't mention to anyone about my presence till I have talked to her.' The man nodded to Ville as they shook hands. He opened the door he previously got out of and looked both ways before he motioned for us to follow him. I wondered to myself why there had to be such secrecy but like in nearly all of my days previous, all would be revealed to me within time. It seems like that is all it ever is, just some waiting game. I shrugged it off and followed Ville and the other man. In this other hall, continued the mass hallway but in another direction but the floors were made of fine marble tiles, limestone and granite in their own respective places. Instead of doors on both sides of us, there were mass sections of the walls missing around us to be leading into much larger rooms. Everything was open now, I guess we were more vulnerable to being seen but then again I never understood the pertinence to be invisible at this time.

We turned down a much larger hall with vaulted ceilings and flying buttresses, I was in awe but this wasn't the time to stop. There were several other people talking on the other side of the massive hall but we kept close to the buttresses. On the other end looked like a lobby of a business. Posters and flyers littered the halls with propped up signs saying 'regional seminars in rooms 4B-6C' along with a rather large desk with many attendants behind them and a large open entrance with people flowing in and out. To the left and right of us on the walls were several two metal doors right next to each other to form something that looked like a pocket doorway that I had in my own fathers house.

Ville and the man turned to the closest one and waited for one to open. That's when I realized that they weren't really trying to be as unseen as I previously thought. Ville stood in front of the door with his arms crossed just bobbing his head till the doors opened. He even turned to look at several people waiting at their own doors a little more than fifteen feet to our right. At one point Ville maintained eye contact with one in the other party and waved as the others waved back. Its like I created some scenario in my head that said we were something like wanted men.

I scratched my head for a few seconds trying to figure out if all of these paranoid thoughts that I have been having were all just self-made and I was drifting off from reality. I reached into my pocket seeing if I was imagining the 'Cube' also—I wasn't. The cube sat there in by pocket having the size a little smaller than my fist, actually taking the shape of a cube now. I wrapped my hand around it to reassure that it was an actual thing and a ding rung, out of my pocket. A sound that you get from when you tap something like a glass cup with a spoon or such, just some kind of high pitched dings.

I looked back and forth to see if it was coming from anywhere else but I noticed that the men that were to our right were looking towards our direction. Ville turned his head to look at me and I looked back confused. The man that was with us began to walk away as the doors opened in front of us, Ville grabbed my hand that wasn’t in my pocket and pushed me into this five by five square room.

Letters to the Mind: Fear

Dear Fear,

I ran into you the other day.
You had that smile that you always have.
All crooked and torn.
For a second,
I though it was good.
You never change,
nothing ever does.
You grab ahold of someone
and you never let go.
A chokehold for the better.
That's what you always told me.
I thought that hiding myself was what was best.
That was just another of your lies.
Now I can't get out.
I'm cautious with every person I meet.
I can't just have a normal relationship,
all because of you,
I hide in my dark room,
till the next day comes.
Things never change,
I do the same thing over and over.
It's killing me.
It's driving me insane.
All I wanted was to be normal,
you couldn't give me that.
I should have known.
I can't stand to be alone,
yet that is what I am.
I keep pulling out my hair,
scratching at my skin,
because I swear I can feel something.
Crawling.
Twisting.
Making a cozy home within me.
Just like you.
Maybe you are what I am feeling.
You're no physical thing.
Just some thought.
I still try to get you out.
I can't listen to myself.
Let alone even taking care of my own body.
I just wait for the next day.
Nothing ever changes.
So why do I keep waiting?

Save This Dance Tonight

Has this reached its end?

Well I don't feel dead.

I left you in your car.

I walked straight ahead.

Your shadow reflected a glimmer.

I knew there was something better,

to fill your time.

I walked to the beach and water,

You should have listened to your father,

keep me in your sights.

That’s the first move

You followed me down,

when my toes were in the sand.

You stopped me there,

offered me your hand.

Your speech was all mute and muddled.

Like you were waiting for trouble,

to spark a fire.

My eyes met yours, the same you for I,

I thought you didn't love me,

until your lips touched mine.

We were watching for the weather,

but our bodies got mixed tethered

like twine.

Please save this dance,
please save this dance,
please save this dance,
lets wait for more romance.

I've had a good few years,
under my belt.
I have to push you back,
until this,
was what felt right.

We were short on time,
but that’s never enough.
I had to tell her again.
She. Choked. Up.

Just another start.

I guess it was enough for her.

Just another start.

To turn the distance from a dead end.

You couldn't get enough of drugs,

to fill an empty heart.

You need to jump that curb,

before you hit the top.

A better trade to fill our positions.

You were the one turned who ran.

I only had to wait,
and watch for the start.
I never thought I'd cry,
until this fell apart.

The sun came up,
and blinded my eyes.
I was awake all night,
never thought,
I would see the light.

Take me back to the start.

Has this reached its end?

Well I don't feel dead.

To tell you the truth,

I only felt that you lied.

I only showed you my compassion,

you threw back in my face.

Well if it counts,

I knew this would end.

It was a simple change,

I lost another friend.

This may have been the chance,

to have a good life.

I would like to see you smile,

you'll be a whore of a wife.

I should have known of this,

from the very start

I should have shut my lips,

watched this fall apart.

I want to save this dance,

for another day.

I set my eyes on you,

your just that big mistake.

Save this dance tonight.

Save this dance tonight.

Save this dance tonight.

Save this dance tonight.

Take me back to the start.

Listening For That Sweet Tune-Chapter 8: A Sight To See Pt. 1

Nearly like events in the past, was covered in sweat when I woke up and the place that I woke in was not where I went out. In fact it is the only place I have awakened in the past few days, they could in fact have only been hours. I pulled the sheets off of me and sat on the side of my bed and looked at the chair in front of me. It felt like I haven't slept for days, maybe I haven't. It seems that I keep waking up at the same time, maybe it has only been hours since I first met Serenity—I'm losing my concept of time.

Everything continued to blend into each other, I could figure out what was going on. In frustration I moved my hands through my hair while keeping my fingers closed lightly to give my hair a tug but not enough to rip out my hair—though it took out all of my loose hairs to wind up in between my fingers. I did this several times while I was in deep thought, not completely aware of my actions until I heard a noise on the other side of the wall I was looking at in front of me.

My fingers tensed up as soon as the sound began and before I knew it I had a hand full of my own hair. Whatever the sound was, it was not coming from the inside of my apartment but of that of another room that was against mine. It sounded like something was being pushed up against the wall repeatedly. It wasn't anything just hitting the wall because I could hear scratching on the ground as well; maybe furniture, something heavy, wood against wood. Each sound up to another weren't rushed in any way, not even anything being slammed against each other—like it was trying to get my attention, to make me incredibly curious. It succeeded in whatever it was trying to do because I began to wonder about the exact thing on what was going on.

I got out of bed and walked to the wall that was making the noise that intrigued me so greatly and whatever was happening on the other side stopped immediately. I waited a few minutes to see if anything else was going to happen, when I could hear anything I put my ear against the wall to see if I could hear whispers or something similar. It was completely silent; not even a single sound was coming from outside—for a second I felt that I was deaf.

A slight shuffling began on the other side and before I knew it a loud noise began that surprised me to the point of jumping and falling onto my back. In my head it felt like the gates of hell were opened and I happened to be in the midst of the initial fires but I gained my composure seconds thereafter to realize that it was only music.

Crackling traveled through the airwaves along with occasional skipping, I could tell for sure that the sound was coming from a phonograph and a somewhat damaged record. I could make out every sound that occurred in the recording like it was sitting right next to me but I defiantly knew that this was not the case. I recognized the song, to every single beat; it was 'The Thieving Magpie Overture' by Gioachino Rossini. The sound of it was amazing, I loved every second of it but if anyone else was inside this building, I had to know.

I couldn't stand a single bit longer to not understand fully on what was going on so I rushed back up to my feet and walkout out of my bedroom and into the living room. A sound continued into the other room but I knew it wasn't the music playing because it sounded to my left and not behind me.

On my left was roughly fifteen feet of space and the wall with several obstacles in between us such as a few couches and a coffee table. On the wall was nearly anything that would normally compose a wall due to the entire wall being made of glass with about four columns equally distant from each other. The sound that I could hear was something like a tapping on the glass so I walked passed all of my furniture to see what all of the noise—other than the music blaring in the background—was about. It ticked somewhere above me but it was touching the glass, I couldn't see anything so it was evident that the sound was at least somewhere out of my view.

I grew restless and walked away from the window to turn to look at the door to the outside on the other side of the room. The ticking stopped after I walked a few feet away and I turned immediately being still curious on what was going on with the window. Something slighter than the original ticking began and it sounded from a location on the window that was up from off the floor only five or six feet. It looked like a rock chip was forming on the window and the glass was cracking slowly but progressing with every second.

A loud screech sounded in the air but not from that strange black figure from before but of something that could fit itself comfortably in the animal kingdom. A bird. I couldn't say which one but it was screeching bloody murder on the top of its lungs. I ran up to be close to the window and I looked up into the sky to see the bird but all I could see was the deep grey fog that was covering the city in more than just darkness. A black figure shook on the distance and approached me within seconds resulting for it to take a dive bomb to my window at the exact place to where the rock ship and cracks were. A loud thud coincided with the bird running into my window not cracking the glass anymore than it was but to show me the bird’s final seconds before it passed away to hit the pavement below.

Blood splattered all around the window showing that it was at a very fast impact but the fact that it hit where the present cracks were and didn't create any more—let alone just crashing through the window—was what intrigued me the most. In no way shape or form was the bird planning to hit at that exact location or even an explanation to the cracks in the first place. Blood slid down the window with a very thin consistency rolling itself into every corner that gravity would let it.

Anything that could make any more noise stopped, the bird was dead, the window seemed to still be intact so I turned around and rushed towards the door to land me into the hallway. As I entered the hallway I listened for the sound to get an exact location on where the sound was coming from—even though I knew for an assuredly that it was coming from the conjoining room to my right. I turned right and walked down looking for the next door to appear. No more than another twenty feet was another door, door number 303. This was in fact where the sound was coming from due to the music’s intensity through the airwaves. A light shined from underneath the door and shadows paced back and forth doing god knows what. As I lifted up my hand to knock on the door I heard more than just music coming from inside the room, it was talking and neither party sounded happy.

One voice began to scream at the other and I could tell that it was coming from a man, then another that was coming from a woman and she toned up the volume that was in the room. She continued to yell louder and louder till the point that I heard a struggle. A loud scream for help sounded from the woman sounded within the room along with several threats to the man that was also in the room. I reached to the door handle but I found that it was locked along with all of the other coincidences that I have come across. Her screaming turned to that of a vibrating nature like she was being shook by the other party that was within the room. That then turned to a gurgling, I heard her cough up her lungs as liquid also sounded to splash on the floor. I began to bang on the door not knowing what that was going to accomplish but I had to make my presence known. She coughed up e few words violently but I couldn't make out whatever she was attempting to say to end up to be a snap that stopped all of the noise that she was making.

A large pair of feet walked calmly in the room to turn off the music that was playing in the room, everything was now quiet other than my heavy breathing. I took a few steps back to put my own back against the wall that was behind me. Whatever happened inside that room didn't sound good to the slightest; the palms of my hands were being pushed against my forehead as I griped my hair into my fists. Did I just hear an occurring of a murder? As the footsteps grew closer to me, I couldn't stand the thought of anything that just happened.

The shadow on the other side grew bigger to the point that it was blocking all light that was forming within the room. I could see an eye appear through the peephole that was in the door, the eye glistened with a frosty blue and excitement—if eyes could have emotions I could swear it was smiling. It blinked a few times and I knew that whoever was on the other side was aware of me as much as I was for whoever was looking at me. I braced myself where I stood, preparing myself for anything that could happen next. I held my breath waiting for the door to open, I clenched my fists in preparation for a struggle but I could only feel like I didn't belong as the doorknob clicked and began to turn.
