The Beginning:

Previously on The Child:

I remember reading a certain story in a newspaper when I was younger, maybe about four or five years ago. Within the paper it told a story of a man who either created or found an odd shaped box. The description of the box was a hexagonal prism like shape. Like a box you give your honey on Valentines. The top of the box however, was split up into triangles from the corners of the hexagon to the center creating a total of eight triangles but every other triangle on the top of the box was missing enabling you to see inside the box. Inside the box, was an assortment of gears and mechanical gear, constantly in motion and covered in metal.

From what people understood, the man activated the box and whatever it did, it made him disappear without a trace, well there was a trace. Authorities looked everywhere and everyone in his family had no idea where he went, so the speculations were on the box but the official police statement was he was murdered. This is the interesting thing. Whatever the box did, it turned his insides out. The entire room was covered with blood and organs and muscles but no bones, not a single piece of the frame of the body. So this mans entrails were all over the room, under couches, in every single corner other than one place. The box and everything exactly six inches away from it were completely spotless. Not a single drop of blood or even dust.

The article continued to talk about the mans final days from witness statements. It said the man changed his personality exactly. Like someone who got addicted to drugs. He was numb and he withdrew from everyone. There was a statement from his wife and in which it said she asked him what the box was and he got jealous and threatened her like she said she wanted to take it from him. He threatened to slit her throat and laugh at her corpse, she was scared so she left the house and went to a friend’s house to drink away her sorrows. The man never acted like this before so she was astonished and she didn't know what to do.

There was another statement from a neighbor. He said that there was a loud screeching noise coming from the victims house and he could hear it all the way in his house. So he walked over and was going to complain so someone could turn down the music or whatever was going on. When he knocked on the door he hear a scrambling on the other side and when the victim opened the door, the split second when the door handle turned the screeching stopped. He asked the neighbor what and he asked if he was hearing a screeching noise, the victim said no and that he hasn't heard anything. Then the neighbor noticed that the victim was bleeding out the both of his ears and he asked him if he was ok.

The victim got defensive again as before and told him he was going to kill his neighbor if he asked him anything like that before, he closed the door and the screeching started again. The neighbor feared for his friend so he called the police and stated for them to check on him.

About ten minutes later the police were heading down the street and the neighbor was waiting outside for the authorities. Just then there was a blinding flash that came from the windows of the victim’s house, the police saw it to so they knocked on the door. No answer. They looked through one of the windows to see if he was inside and the window was covered in blood but not just the inside, the outside too but just the glass panes of the window, nothing else.

The blood looked moist and fresh but it didn't even run, like something was holding it up. The authorities found this as a just cause to examine the house more so they kicked open the door and what they saw was imaginable. There was a very thick fog through the whole house and it didn't leave when they opened the door and when they entered the room where the man...died, the fog stopped exactly at the door frame leaving the room spotless of fog but covered in blood in return.

From what I understand, the authorities took the box and put it into some locked vault or whatever. Either way it disappeared or was 'misplaced' as they call it and no one knows where the box ever went until now. I was allowed to explore the cottage today and when I got to my room this box sat on my desk. I’m sure this is the same box and I could only wonder what happened that day to the man because if this is that same box, I don't want the same thing to happen to me. I wasn't looking forward to exploding then disappearing today.
